We are very proud and happy: At the beginning of February, some 300 journalists from the Moroccan news agency MAP awarded the personalities of the year 2020 in six categories in Rabat. Among them, Hansjörg Huber was awarded for his humanitarian commitment in the category “Social Action, Civic Initiative and Human Development”… I’m very pleased with this award,” Hansjörg Huber says. “My vision is that one day, no child left out will have to struggle for survival. That’s why I build children’s villages.” According to official figures, about 24 children are abandoned every day in Morocco. The number of unrecorded cases is probably much higher. Huber learned about the plight of abandoned children and wanted to do something about it. Together with his partner, he created an entire village from scratch. At first, only 30 children moved into the first family homes. Today, more than 160 children live in Dar Bouidar. Construction of other children’s villages has begun. A second village should be ready before the end of 2022. “I regret not coming to Morocco earlier,” says Hansjörg Huber, who moved to Marrakech from Zurich in 2008. “In my heart, I am Moroccan.”
