Child sponsorship and village sponsorship

Great to hear that you are interested in becoming one of our sponsors.

Sponsorship allows you to follow and support the life of your sponsored child in a very personal way. At the same time, you will be providing support to the child's family and to the entire village community. Our goal is to ensure that all of our approx. 120 children receive financial support from a sponsor or – in the case of shared sponsorship – from several sponsors.

Major donors and companies can also become sponsors, for one or for a number of children – or even for a whole house.

Transparency is very important to us. You may of course visit your sponsored child – provided this has been arranged in advance. We will send you regular updates to tell you how your sponsored child is getting on and about all the positive things that are being achieved through your sponsorship.

Sustainability and equality of opportunity

We want to give our children the best possible support to ensure that they have the same opportunities as other children. Our concept is based on sustainability and self-sufficiency. It is our aim that the Atlas Kinder children will at some point be in a position to take responsibility for their own lives and will be motivated to help us to develop the village in which they have grown up. We pay close attention to the mental and physical health of the children in our care, many of whom have had to go through traumatic experiences.

Languages, music, sport and healthy food

In 2018 we added to our pre-school facilities by building our own primary school, and can now support and encourage your sponsored child all the way into the future: we want every child to grow up speaking four languages if possible – they are taught Arabic, the Berber language Tamazight, English and French.

We also attach great importance to physical education and to providing musical education for our children from a young age. Therapy techniques such as cranial osteopathy, yoga and riding lessons all with specially trained personnel help the children to process the trauma of growing up without their natural parents. We hope that this diverse education programme will give our young village residents the opportunity to grow into adults who will go on to strengthen the rights of abandoned children and stigmatised mothers in the coming generation.

Healthy eating is also very important to us. Our children are given freshly-prepared meals every day, with plenty of fruit and vegetables.

Special support for our disabled children

A number of our young residents have had a pretty bad start in life. Some are severely disabled and require special care. To make sure that we can give these children effective support, we employ specially trained foster mothers, therapists and nurses who show them a lot of love and patience and have the expertise to take care of them in the best possible way.

We have already set up a physiotherapy centre in our village, where we can offer our disabled children treatment tailored to their needs.

In addition to this, we are planning to build a "House of Integration" in our village during the course of 2020, with facilities that are perfectly suited to the needs of our disabled children.

In order for us to be able to support our disabled children in the long term, we need your particular support as sponsors.

Why not set up a sponsorship agreement today and follow the life of a child with a very special need for love and attention?

Costs for sponsorship

Through child sponsorship you will be supporting the development of children who would otherwise have almost no chance in life.
You may of course visit your sponsored child at any time – provided the visit has been arranged in advance. We will also send you regular progress updates on the child you are sponsoring (in English or in French).

There are many possible ways of setting up sponsorship.

The following modules give you an overview of the various ways in which you can offer support to Atlas Kinder through sponsorship:

Module I – village sponsorship

From 20 euros/month you can become a village sponsor. This means that you will be supporting all the children in the village equally. You will be helping us to give our children all-round care and support in a loving atmosphere.

Module II – shared sponsorship

From 100 euros/month you can be part of a shared sponsorship scheme through which you help to give "your" child a future as one of several sponsors.

Module III – individual sponsorship

From 300 euros/month you can take on the entire costs of sponsorship for a child and become more deeply involved in the development of your sponsored child.

Module IV – sponsorship of a disabled child

From 600 euro/month you can take on sponsorship for a child with a disability. By doing this, you will cover the costs of the child's special care and will help to improve the development of your sponsored child in both physical and psychological terms.

Module V – house sponsorship

From 2,700 euros a month, you or your company can provide support to an entire house. This sponsorship covers the costs of the salaries of the foster mothers and the costs of accommodation, food, education and healthcare for the nine children living in the house.

Questions & Answers on Atlas Kinder child sponsorship

You have decided to become a sponsor. Many thanks!

We are sure you would like to know a little more about your sponsorship. To follow, you will find answers to a number of frequently asked questions:

What is the duration of the sponsorship?

You can decide for yourself how long you wish to set up the sponsorship for. You can terminate your sponsorship at any time, without having to provide a reason. Of course, we hope that you will want to support your sponsored child, and therefore our village community, for as long as possible.

Can I visit the child I am sponsoring?

Yes, of course, you may visit the child you are sponsoring at any time. All you need to do is send us a brief e-mail to let us know in advance (in French, English or Arabic), around 14 days before your planned visit, to: Dit e-mailadres wordt beveiligd tegen spambots. JavaScript dient ingeschakeld te zijn om het te bekijken.

Am I allowed to send presents to the child I am sponsoring?

People have good intentions when they send presents, but it can sometimes cause problems in the particular situation which our children find themselves in. Children can soon become envious if one sponsored child gets a lot of gifts and others receive nothing. If you wish to give a gift in the form of money, we would be happy to set up a savings account for your sponsored child which will be handed over to them when they are of legal age.

What happens to my sponsorship payments?

Your sponsorship payments are earmarked donations. They are used to finance everything related to your sponsored child – from food, clothing and schooling to the salary of their foster mother and their leisure activities. If you decide to set up a village sponsorship, your payments will benefit the entire village community. We consider transparency on this subject to be very important. Our annual accounts are drawn up by the well-known firm Coopers Audit Maroc SA.

Will I be sent a donation receipt for my sponsorship payments?

According to national rules, your contributions and sponsorships may entitle you to a tax reduction. On request, we will send you a donation receipt at the end of each year.
